3 Reasons Why you should Choose Laptop over Desktop
When decided to buy a computer, You only have two options: You can either get a regular desktop or you can opt to choose a laptop.
Desktop PC’s, because of it’s size can accommodate more components. Normally, desktop machines are always pack with more computing power than notebook computers. In addition laptops do not come cheaply. These mini computers are geared with specially designed parts and are small enough to fit in the limited laptop casing.
Although desktops are more preferred by most people there are certain qualities that makes laptops more appealing than Desktop computers. Here are some great advantages of laptop over desktop.
Lightweight
Obviously this is the most prominent advantage of notebook computers over desktop computers. Laptops are very light and easy to carry. Laptops can be hand carried during trips without weighing down it’s carrier. You can literally bring it wherever you go and it gives you the ability to roam around and look for the best wireless hotspots.
Small
Desktops together with it’s peripherals such as keyboard, mouse monitor and speakers eats a lot of space no matter how spacious your desk are. If you are staying on a local dormitory, small apartment, or in a place where space is very limited, you will definitely appreciate on the extra room that your will laptop will free up on your desk. Another thing is laptops keeps your desk neat and clutter free, it removes all the hassle of all the wiring that comes with desktop computers.
Energy Saving
Desktops have many parts that requires a separate power sources, like the monitor, speakers, router etc. you will need a separate electrical outlets for them to function. With laptops, all yo need to do is just plug in the AC adaptor to supply power to the whole unit. One thing that is so great and really a energy saver is that you can run your laptop on batteries. Some available laptops today can run up to 8 hours on batteries. The logic to this is that unlike desktops ,laptops has fewer components so it requires less energy to function normally. This will help you cut down your electric bill consumption and also help you save money in the long run and those savings will make up for the hefty price tag of your laptop.

these are good reasons to select a laptop over a desktop. i think that laptop is better than desktop because it is also portable…
nice advantages of laptops we’ll maybe next time you can discuss about its disadvantages… for me choosing between the two has it’s pros and cons. It depends, on the user, for me having both desktop and laptop is a good buy.
Over the last 5 years laptops have become a very viable option as replacement for desktops. These days they come with decent video cards for gaming, plenty of space, and excellent computing power.
I might just get another laptop instead of a desktop for my next PC upgrade.
1. Mobility
You might be used to pulling up a chair to your computer, but it makes much more sense to pull your computer up to your chair. Laptops can certainly be used at your desk, but you also have the option of bringing them to the spot where you’re most comfortable. Maybe you’d like to surf the Web in the evening out in the living room or catch up on your favorite blogs before bedtime. Notebooks with wireless connectivity can travel with you throughout your home, so you can check your email or do your Internet shopping anywhere.
Of course, notebooks also make sense for those who are on the go. Students can take laptops to class and to the library, while businesspeople can take them along while traveling. With WiFi so widely available, it even makes sense to have a notebook while on vacation. With the right notebook, it’s easy to take photos with your digital camera, upload them, and email them to friends and family before you even get back home. Or you can use it to write a vacation blog and include those pictures from your digital camera.
2. Better Displays
The size and quality of computer notebook displays has improved so dramatically that there’s little difference between laptops and a computer desktop. For example, you can get Apple’s MacBook with a 13.3-inch LCD widescreen (1280 x 800 pixels), a 15.4-inch LCD widescreen (1440 x 900 pixels) or a 17-inch widescreen (1680 x 1050 pixels). Similarly, the Compaq Presario has a 15.4-inch display.
3. Lighter Weight
Just a few years ago, even the lightest notebook was a pain to lug around. Today, though, laptops are increasingly easy on the back. The MacBook is slightly over an inch thick and the Toshiba Portege weighs in at about four pounds. While that’s still heavy compared to come of the new ultralight convertibles (Fujitsu’s LifeBook U810 weighs only a pound and half), it’s a significant improvement over the old seven-pound laptops.
4. Better Computing and Battery Power
Historically, two drawbacks of notebooks were their limited RAM, limited space on the hard drive, and short battery life. Times have changed, though, and laptops now have as much power under the hood as their computer desktop cousins. The MacBook, for example, has 1GB of memory (configurable up to 4 GB) and a hard drive that’s configurable to 250GB. This means that your software will hum right along and you’ll be able to zip through programs as quickly and as easily as you do on your desktop. Likewise, batteries in today’s notebooks don’t heat up and don’t conk out.
5. More Features
In older laptops, the computer’s size and weight limited the number and types of features available. Today, with smaller processors and other components, there’s room to pack more features into notebooks. For example, the MacBook has a DVD player, built-in webcam, built-in wireless capability, two USB ports and a FireWire port, built-in microphone, and audio and digital input/output.
There are so many advantages to owning notebooks that, before you buy your next computer, it’s worth your while to take one for a spin.
i personally think that laptop is better than any desktop because of several reasons. and the reasons you have given are also very suitable to select the laptop over desktop. i personally have a laptop. i chose that because i cant stay in one city and i always have to borrow my laptop with me. if i would purchase a desktop then i could not be able to pick that with me wherever i go.
But,how about laptop temperature and performance?
Is it more goods?
It is really a nice discussion of laptop over desktop, like laptop is small and light weight that is general that many of us know but i like the third point energy saving. It is really a fantastic reason that force me to buy laptop, thanks for the wonderful info.
I would have probably disagreed with you until the invention of wireless technology and the links of the Wireless Dongle allowing 24hr internet access from just about anywhere with a phone signal. Makes portability the main advantage for me.

I think the best part about laptops is that they’re small, which makes them portable.
I have a laptop myself instead of a desktop for that reason
Great article are you ready save some serious money and a great refurbished dell laptop? I thought so!
Interesting.I find notebooks rather too small and laptops very fragile.I might be old-fashioned but desktops still work for me.
A large laptop with external keyboard and large monitor is a great solution for the home office and heavier duty computing on the road. Pick up a refurbished netbook for the casual internet access and email when the horsepower from a large laptop isn’t required. Lots of great solutions out there at good prices.

There is nothing worse than buying a laptop just before a new feature becomes standard. I remeber buying a laptop once before wireless because standard in all laptops. I have it lying around somewhere and this still annoys me everytime i use it!
I think the reasons are quite helpful and informative. I’ll go with laptop rather than desktop.
Well even I agree portability is the most important factors that has made laptop gain much popularity over desktops..
Toshiba laptops have a big time power plug issue (internal power jack pulls away from housing preventing plug insertion). Mine failed within 4 months of use. It is a obvious design problem which Toshiba continues to ignore. Type in Toshiba Laptop Problems in Yahoo search engine. Its a problem that will NOT go away. Too bad…besides this issue it’s not a bad machine. Customer support is way bad!!!
I just bought my own laptop the other day.. Just so versitile… I would highly recommend
My desktop bit the dust 6 months ago, so i’ve been on laptop since then. I like it, but am not quite satisfied with the small screen, my old monitor on the desktop was a cool 22inches. Thjs laptop is tiny so it makes it a bit dificult to see the text on some websites or to watch videos online.

I agree with you… if you are having a hard time choosing between a laptop and a desktop why not buying both of them.
@Cellulite Treatment
Yes… portability is the huge advantage of laptop over desktop. laptop is more preferred by people that are always on the go.
@Mike Wagan
your welcome. it’s true, desktops are more cheaper but if you can compute all the savings that you will get from using a laptop you will be surprise that buying a laptop is the best decision you’ve ever made.
if you are concern about heat issue on your laptop you can use a laptop cooler, it can dramatically reduce the heat on your laptop.
saving energy is also my main reason why I bought a laptop. although I have a desktop I use my laptop more often because I can still use my lappy even if it is unplug.
Yeah I agree with you.. portability is really the main reason why people buy laptops.
I think that you said right , but my teacher said that : color of desktop better than laptop.
how do you think ?
