If you’re considering buying a cheap laptop computer, then you need to have method for deciding which one is right for you. I’m assuming that your reason for wanting a cheap laptop is that you don’t have a tone of money to throw around on a computer with all the bells and whistles that you will never use. You are looking for a computer that will offer you the basics and be a reliable workhorse. Right?
Okay then. Here are some of the things you will want to consider then. If you decide to go too cheap, then you need to know that there is a good chance that your computer may not stand up very long to everyday use. You’ll have spent some money only to have a box of electronics that no longer work. The way to avoid this is to read some reviews that are written from the standpoint of computers that have a reputation for being well-built and that are dependable. One company that always ranks high in this category is Toshiba.
Many business laptops are designed with security in mind. If you don’t need this computer for business, then you won’t need the rather long list of security enhancements, both physical and software, that are available. A decent student’s notebook doesn’t need things like a fingerprint reader or software that gives users the ability to encrypt files so that even the NSA can’t open them. (Although, there are always rumors around about the NSA making sure that encryption software always has a backdoor for them. But maybe this is just the stuff of spy novels. Who knows?)
Your cheap laptop is going to have to be comfortable to use, so do a little testing at a store like Best Buy or Wal-Mart, or any store that has a good selection of notebook and laptop computers. Try the keys out a little. Are they the right spacing for your comfort? Are they quiet and smooth to the touch? These are small tings that are important to consider. You may not wind up buying the computer at the store (because online prices are often unbeatable) but at least you can get a feel for the available machines in your price range.
Just look around and I’m sure that you’ll be able to find the cheap laptop or notebook that fits your needs and price range perfectly. There are so many to choose from.
