How to Fix “Windows Installer Service could not be accessed” error message when installing application

1

By Anthony on October 22nd, 2010

I was about to install Adobe Photoshop CS3 to a client’s PC. At first I thought that this will be a walk in the park. But I was wrong, Just when I hit the Setup I immediately received this error “The Windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance “. I tried resolving it first by downloading and re-installing Windows Installer and I also fix and clean up registry but it didn’t solve the issue. I rested for a few hours after that I came back with a solution that was to Unregister and Re-register the Windows Installer and finally it solved the problem.

Here is the exact method that I performed to fix the issue:

  • Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. You won’t see anything when you run this command.
  • Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. You won’t see anything when you run this command. On some machines you may briefly see an hourglass. After this, the operation is complete.
  • Try installing the application again.

If you experience the same problem but the above solution didn’t work for you feel free to leave a comment and I will try to attend to your problem as soon as possible.
