Do you have a laptop and you want to get more battery life out of it? Do you know that Windows 7 has hidden tool that can examine your laptop’s energy and will provide recommendation on how you can improve it. Well, now you know. Just follow the steps below to get your Power Efficiency Report.
- Click on Start Menu Orb, type cmd in the search box and when the cmd icon appears, right-click it and choose “Run as administrator.” This is very important because running this tool requires administrator privileges. Just in case you immediately jump to the command you will receive this message:
- At the command line, type in the following: \Power is the folder where you want the report will be saved. You should create this folder before running this command.
- Windows 7 will examine the behavior of your laptop for about a minute. After that it will analyze it and create a report in HTML format and will be save in the folder you specified. After the examination is done go to the folder where the report is saved then open the report it is usually named “Energy_Report”.
The ENERGY command requires administrator privileges and must be executed from an elevated command prompt
powercfg -energy -output \Power\Energy_Report.html
