Another tip from my experience, when I'm using laptop at home and plan to use it for long time I just take off the battery and use direct power from the adaptor. I only plug the battery when I'm mobile or once a week if I'm not going anywhere.

They should go for about 5 years, at least mine did, it is an HP pavilion, an older version. I'd take it to a place called Central Computers, they are excellent. They do work for most of the companies where I live in the Silicon Valley, and they are reasonable.

Your battery may be malfunctioning, or there is some type of "short" in it. It is usually the adapter. They should go for about 5 years, at least mine did, it is an HP pavilion, an older version. I'd take it to a place called Central Computers, they are excellent.

Depending on the power size of the battery it should run unplugged for up to 3 some hours. then the power cord needs to be plugged in to recharge the battery.

if you know its not short, and you know that its not the power cord...hate to tell you this, but after a while from plugging and unplugging the power cord from the slot, that chip where the slot is gets worn down or somehow disconnected from the motherboard.

i just found out this trick......
set your battery alarm action to ''stand by ''when it reaches 5% then it will stand by at that 5 %, when it stands by,unlock your laptop and continue using it.it won't shut down or do anything after this because no action was set for below that 5%,so even when it reaches 0% you can contine using it for the whole day nomatter how bright or busy your p.c is.plus i thought that if while charging it willcharge for long but suprisingly it took like 20-30 minutes to reach 100%.
but i dont know if its bad or good for my laptop.help please.

This will help reset the electronics inside the battery (li-on batteries have a small circuit chip that keeps this information stored). This will "remind" the battery how much capacity it has and will prolong its life.

Laptop isn't plugged in it will drain the battery (as an earlier poster said the power has to come from somewhere) but it won't affect the battery life. In other words this one charge will be shorter but the length of the next charges will be unaffected.
