How to recover your Hacked Yahoo! Account

18

By Anthony on January 7th, 2009

yahoo_logoJanuary 1, 2009 almost became one of the worst day of my life because my 6 years old Yahoo! account got hacked, All my valuable personal mails, some important files, pictures, membership access, and lots of contacts are in my Yahoo account. The hacker even changed my zip code and deleted and changed my alternate emails so I will not be able to reset my password.

I spend the whole 1st day of January of 2009 trying to bring back my account. I’ve tried different tricks and tools to saved my account but they all failed. I never did think of emailing Yahoo for my problem because most of the people say that Yahoo always ignore them regarding their hacked Yahoo password problem. I said to myself that if there is anyone that can bring back my Yahoo account it is Yahoo.

On January 2, 2009 I send a mail to Yahoo Account Security Department stating my problem, I told them the whole story and how important my that account to me. After two hours I did receive a automated response asking for some verification. So I did send again with all my information to them. I did not hear from them after their last mail.

January 4, 2009 I receive a mail from Yahoo with my new password, YAHOOOOO!!!!. It is really a Yahoooo day :D .

To be able to reset your hacked yahoo password just send a mail to Yahoo Security Department – account-security-help@cc.yahoo-inc.com. always remember to be polite in contacting them, tell the whole story, don’t blame them for your hacked account, tell them when is the last time you access your account, supply them the password that you last used to accessed your account, give them all the information you entered when you register your account or just the information when you last update your account.

There are lots of tricks on the internet on how you can recover your password. Don’t try them it is just a waste of time, high security risk and most of all they DON’T WORK.

Really good article. I heard that restoring password is not that easy. You are lucky enough to regain the password back.

I never thought you could get your old password back. This is certainly a very useful information for us who might experience the same thing in the future. My question is: Is it also possible for Yahoo! to inform you who has hacked your account (maybe from the hacker’s IP?).

I agree, Gmail also for me is the best webmail. Fast, secure and clean interface.

Yahoo mail now provides a new way of retrieving your hacked/forgotten password account using the old details you provided on your account. Even if the hacker changed the info Yahoo will still look for the original info. I followed this new process a couple of months ago on my sister’s account and it worked.

Yahoo has changed their process of recovering hacked/forgotten email accounts. You just need to remember all your info before it was hacked. No matter how hackers changed your info, Yahoo will still consider the information before it was changed.
